Raclette is a beautiful first freshener. She has more refinement over her mother with a level topline. She started out her lactation milking 3.6 lbs per day at 1-2 weeks fresh, but missed milk test by 1 day. Then her milk production dropped when she got a mystery bug that has been moving through my herd. (They go off their grain and milk production drops temporarily, but otherwise act healthy.) She seems to be holding steady at 3.3 lbs. per day, still great for a first freshener.
Raclette also has nice long teats with large openings and a soft udder, so she is easy to milk out.
Mimolette is her dam, milking over 4 lbs per day on her second freshening and getting an LA score of +EEE 88.
Her sire's dam (Shadow) got a linear appraisal score of VEEE 90 this year. Since Raclette's sire and dam are cousins, Raclette is line-bred with Sunfire and Estrella on both sides. The Sunfire/Estrella breeding produced SG Redstone SF Dark Star, who milked 4-5 lbs on almost every test day on her last lactation, with a total of 1350 lbs, qualifying her for ADGA's top ten breed leader list.
At the Logan Show, she placed 4th in her age group, with the appraiser saying that if she had been properly uddered, he would have moved her to the top of the class. He said she just "glowed" and he loved her body type. I keep waiting for her milk production to take off. This year her high test day is 3.5 lbs. Not sure minerals are balanced properly for my herd. But at least she doesn't have the diarrhea problems that we had last year.
