DOB: 10/29/2011 969 lbs in 222 days in milk on 4f (lactation in progress) LA 87 VVVV ADGA genetics Information
Zoella's parents are both champion show goats from back east. Her mother, NC Promisedland SS Zoey, had a high test day of 6.1 lbs. and a linear appraisal score of 90 VEEE. As you can see from the pictures below, she is a gorgeous doe. Zoey was over-height, but Zoella has never measured OH.
We bought Zoella after she had kidded with triplets and had been in milk for 6 months. Then we waited for a year to breed her while trying to get artificial insemination to work. She ended up being in milk for over 2 years. Her ADGA milk test record shows that after being in milk for a year and a half, she was still making 2.9 lbs. We can't wait to see her peak production once she freshens. Zoella is also an extremely patient doe, letting everyone learn how to milk on her. The appraiser said she is very dairy with nice spacing between her ribs. Zoella was appraised 8 months after kidding and only 6 weeks after switching herds, probably the worst possible time for her. Unfortunately, she did not get bred early enough to be fresh for her 2017 appraisal, so we'll have to get her appraised next year.
Zoella does have a couple of moonspots (color spots on top of another color.)
Zoella is milking fantastically this year. High test day of 5.1 lbs with 3 other test days at over 4 lbs! Off test, I recorded her peak at 5.6 lbs, and with management not being perfect this year, I expect her milking potential a little higher. Her udder size and shape improved so much with freshening that I'm sure her LA scores would have been higher. Goals for next year, I guess.
Zoella got her Superior Genetics award and is milking fantastically this lactation with butterfat improving while still milking over 4 lbs. She is competing for ADGA top ten breed leader. At 222 days in milk, she has milked 969 lbs of milk! Zoella finished her lactation with 1350 lbs milk in 305 days.
Zoella made #9 on the very competitive 2018 top ten in the nation list. https://adga.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/TTv-64-final.pdf
Zoella had two kids in July 2018, both died soon after birth. She also freshened with very little milk. We are investigating the cause. Possibly, it was iodine deficiency from eating flixweed during pregnancy. She otherwise seems healthy.
We freshened Zoella before the flixweed had a chance to come up. She had 4 healthy bucklings and lots of milk. First milk test 4.0 lbs at 11 days fresh with 8% butterfat. 2nd test 4.8 lbs and 5.6% butterfat. Zoella is known to just keep putting out the milk, even at 7.5 years old. Hoping for another top ten worthy lactation. She will be appraised in July and I expect a much improved LA score.
